Source: MotorTrend 3/04/2019 The Chevrolet Camaro was launched in 1966 with an available two-speed automatic transmission. By 1969, the Camaro got two different three-speed options. Fast-forward 50 years and five generations, and you can spec a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS with 10 forward gears. To quote Jasper Beardly of The Simpsons, "What a time to be alive." There was nothing particularly wrong with the eight-speed automatic available in the pre-refresh SS (which is why it's still offered on turbo-four and V-6 trims), but with a 10-speed automatic co-developed with Ford at its disposal, GM saw fit to spread the gearbox that debuted in the ZL1 to more models in the Camaro lineup. The 10-speed is a $1,595 option on the SS. Of course, the 2019 Camaro's refresh involves much more than the automatic's increased gear count. The updated pony car adds forward collision warning as an option and also gets a new infotainment system with available 8.0-inch touchscreen. Then, of course, there's the exterior face-lift, which has been controversial to say the least. The headlights have been redesigned with new LED accents that flow into the grille, and the taillights return to the classic quad round lamp arrangement. More differentiation exists between the trim levels, and the SS' new look has been by far the most derided. Read full article here! Source: AutoBlog (March 5th) As more and more customers move into the crossover segment, the less the segment is one-size-fits-all, or even three-sizes-fit-all. As such, Mazda has taken the opportunity at the Geneva Motor Show to offer a new, "just right" crossover to its lineup. The 2019 Mazda CX-30, as it's called, slots between the diminutive CX-3 and the compact CX-5 crossovers. The CX-30 shares the "Kodo" (meaning "soul of motion") design language Mazda does so well, and the execution here is excellent, too. We love the long hood and simple but elegant curves, the way the light reflects off the sides in dramatic waves. Its no surprise that Mazda chose its Soul Red Crystal to show off the new model. Mazda says it had four goals for the CX-30, two of which had to do with the size of the vehicle. It needed to be small enough to be highly maneuverable, so that drivers wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere they need to go, but it also had to be roomy enough to provide a comfortable space for multiple passengers to easily enjoy one another's company. Mazda wanted the design to "embody the joy of owning something that matches your sensibilities." Finally, it had to perform in a way to provide peace of mind and a relaxing driving experience. Mazda will offer the CX-30 with its Skyactiv-G 2.0 gasoline engine with cylinder deactivation, Skyactiv-D 1.8 diesel engine and its new Skyactiv-X engine with gasoline compression ignition. Both gasoline engines will use Mazda's mild hybridtechnology to help improve fuel economy without sacrificing performance. The CX-30 will also be offered with Mazda's I-Activ all-wheel drive and G-Vectoring Control Plus for maximum grip and stability. It will be available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Read the full story here! Source: AutoBlog (March 5th) Spy shots of the 2020 Chevrolet Trax continue to roll in, and it's getting even more Blazer-like every time we see it. This latest batch shows the little crossover with less camouflage than we've ever seen before. Even with the trippy black and white patterns, it's easy to tell this front end is going to closely resemble the larger Blazer. We see the same two-tiered lighting setup in front with the skinny LED DRL poking through just below hood level. The actual headlights are mounted lower down in the bumper. Previously we saw these prototypes running around with black cladding covering most of the lines. Now we get a true sense of the shape from the body-hugging vinyl fitted to this one. The subcompact crossover looks a bit stubby with the wheels pushed to the corners, providing shallow overhangs on both ends. A little spoiler hangs out over the slanted rear window, just like the 2019 Blazer. We're still looking at test vehicle taillights in the rear. What appears to be true dual exhaust is visible through the outlets, too. The outline of raised plastic cladding is prominent through the body wrapping, but that's to be expected with a little crossover. We still can't see the grille design through the covering, but a design similar to the Blazer's wouldn't be out of the question. Read the whole story here! |
